What is evangelism all about? written by: Brandon God has called each of his children, the born again Christians of this world, to be
evangelists. He has given us all the commandment to go, and make disciples. And a lot of
Christians take this call seriously, but a lot don’t. Some might fear sharing their faith
because of rejection. Some might fear sharing their faith because they don’t know
scripture well enough, or if they do know the scripture, they fear that they might forget it
when the time comes to share. Some might not feel that they are gifted or talented
enough. But if you are a Christian, it is your responsibility to share the gospel. And I
would briefly like to remind each of you of what Paul said about sharing Jesus:
1 Cor. 2:1-5- [1]And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech
or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. [2] For I determined not to know
any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. [3] And I was with you in
weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. [4] And my speech and my preaching was
not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
[5] That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
In I Corinthians 2:1-2, Paul tells us how he brought the message of Christ to the
Corinthian church. He didn’t come with big or pretty words trying to pursued the people
to accept Jesus. And it doesn’t take big or pretty words. The good news is simple. And we
should keep it that way. We shouldn’t use big words because some people might not
know those complex words. When I accepted Jesus, I didn’t know what liberate, and
sanctify meant, or any other of those words that preachers use. I just knew that I was a
sinner in need of forgiveness and that Jesus was the only one that could give it to me. So a
large vocabulary isn’t important. But what is important is that we do have some
understanding of what the message is. And if you are a born again Christian, then you
have all the understanding you need: you know that Jesus saves; and THAT is the
message; THAT is the good news.
In verse 3, Paul says that he was nervous when he preached. So it doesn’t matter if
your voice shakes and your knees knock when you proclaim the good news. God is with
you. He will give you strength. But we must always be ready for an encounter with
someone we can witness to. We can stay ready with constant prayer and Bible study, and
by having a right relationship with God.
One of the easiest ways to share your faith, is just to share your testimony. All
Christians have a testimony. Some might not be as dramatic as others, but we all have a
message, we all have a story to tell. Some people might be in the same boat you were in.
And it might help them to know that God will help in that situation.
One of the most important things to remember is that true conviction will come
from the Holy Spirit. If someone doesn’t give their life to Jesus after you h |
