WHO IS THE ENEMY?
"(I pray) that they all may be one, as you, Father, are in Me, and I in You...." John 17:21
Are all Christians one in Christ Jesus? Of course they are. But often the world cannot see that unity because believers' actions and words pit them against one another. To unbelievers, this kind of conflict makes Christians look more like enemies than brothers and sisters in the Lord.
A war story may help illustrate the sad result of internal strife and the positive result of unity. Two battleships met in the night and began to attack each other. In the conflict a number of crewmen were killed and others severely wounded, while both vessels were severely damaged. As daylight broke, the sailors on the ships discovered to their amazement and incredibility that both vessels flew the English flag.
Like the men in this story, "Christians sometimes attack their own ships," and the victory that could have been won by battling the real enemy is lost. Harsh words and belligerent attitudes weaken the effectiveness of Christ's body, the Church. How much better to keep the unity of the Spirit in the Bond of Peace.! Ephesians 4:32 - "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."
Ephesians 4:3 "Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."
Let's concentrate on defeating the enemy not one another.
Psalm 141:3"Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips."
TONGUE ATTACK
I said something today that I shouldn't have said,
And I wish I could take it back.
But the words now are gone, and the damage is done:
I was hit by a tongue attack.
The words I let slip from my two lips today
Was just a foolish wisecrack.
