Whats gonna happen? written by: Brandon A few weeks ago I received a birthday card from my mom. It was a cute little card
with a hole cut in the front cover, revealing the head of a bulldog on the inside. Above the
head of the bulldog read this words “So, you say you’re another year older?” You know
how a dog will sometimes tilt their head sideways when they’re confused about
something? Well, when I opened the card, the bulldog’s head tilted and under him read the
words “you sure don’t look it.” And sometimes, my parents will ask me the question,
“How old are you?” I will answer them and they reply “You sure don’t act it”
That’s how the world views Christians today. “You say you’re a Christian? You
sure don’t look it. You sure don’t act it.” Its sad but its true. The world looks at the
church, and instead of seeing it’s joy; it’s love; it’s happiness; it’s peace; and it’s
willingness to help others, it sees the arguments and disagreements between different
denominations. It sees the gossips and the slanderers talking about the preacher, or
someone else who done something weird or strange during the week. It looks at the
church and sees the strife between the people who want green carpet and the ones who
want red carpet. The world looks at the church and sees the people saying the same word
over and over again: “tithe”, “tithe”, “tithe”, “tithe”, “tithe”. They look at the church and
see the pastor’s pride and arrogance, and the teacher’s adulteries and hateful attitude.
Basically, the world looks at the church and sees a reflection of itself.
Why do people, today, look at the church in this way? I believe it is because
Christians do not possess the qualities of the almighty, all-powerful God in which they
profess to belong to. What are the qualities of God? He is forgiving, loving,
compassionate, kind, patient, trustworthy, righteous, holy, good, faithful, honest, etc.. I
could go on and on naming the qualities of God but you probably already know them. But
do you know that you are suppose to be just like him?
Search the Bible and you will find verse after verse telling you to be kind, be
loving, be holy, etc., but there is a verse that sums them all up when it says in Ephesians
5:1 to “be imitators of God”. That’s a pretty easy and clear verse to understand, isn’t it?
“be imitators of God”
What will happen when Christian begin to possess the qualities of God? Well, first
of all, people will no longer question whether or not we are true Christians, and if this
Jesus we claim to be following, made a change in us.
A friend of mine once said, “the people around here that go to church are worse
than the people who don’t”. He wasn’t a Christian, but the people he was talking about
were, and it saddens me to say that I couldn’t argue with him. The same people who went
to church on Sunday mornings and Sunday nights were the same ones who were cursing
and swearing constantly. The same people who had professed to be Christians, and had
been Baptiz |
