Cousin Marvin who went to see his father in I.C.U. today;
“Sorry, Marvin, but... you can not stay”;
Seems like that stroke had something to do with family;
Pressure shot up soon as he placed his eyes on thee.
Uncle Beau seems to hate the women that he loves;
All his rage be pourin’ out in sporadic floods;
But, then, how can he love them when he don’t love him;
It’s evident from the way he injects exotic venim;
And oh Sweet Mother and Sweet Father Divine-
Dare I hang their laundry on the line?
Nah, we’ll keep maw and paw’s business on the under,
and just let their seed’s lives shout it with thunder.
Oh. Wait- what’s that you say?
You got some people like that around your way?
Your niece, Candy, can’t get over the fact that her mother died;
So, since then she’s cried and cried and cried;
to busy focusing on self and wishing for a last breath;
now, her sweet babies suffer the same murderous theft.
Grandfather died after ninety plus years of living-
Gave his all- even service on the pulpit he had given;
So, forget the car of iniquity called Lascivious he had driven;
When at the pulpit did he pray he was forgiven?
And you- looking at family with a compassion that is true,
But looking in the mirror- what you gonna do?
Hang your head because you caught in the trap too,
and slowly close your eyes to the view.
Is this it?
Is the whole world suffering from the same pain?
Is there not one soul- one family that can’t complain?
Is there not one that can at least say:
No, Daddy wasn’t always satisfied with his pay;
Yes, sometimes the skies were cloudy and grey;
But I can rejoice in this one special way:
I’m learning to break them chains day by day;
and I’m learning how to keep them chains away
through Christ who is showing me the way
because in me His life is not in vain.
