Does It Make Any Difference?

written by: Ryan Kepke

A man with whom I work makes the statement of our title in just about every other breath. And, indeed, he is right about most of the things of which he says, “It makes no difference.”

But a mother and daughter were talking one day about the difference in religion that exists in the world.    The mother said "I don’t think anybody should try to convince someone else they are wrong; we should let people have their own opinions and not try to force them to change." The daughter replied, "That would be just great, Mom, except if you're wrong, you will go to hell." Of course, that really set the mother off. But the daughter was right! (2 Corinthians 5:10, 11; John 12:48).

One of the strange, un-biblical, statements one often hears from religious people is, “It really doesn’t make any difference.” No where else would one hear such an expression about a serious matter! Suppose a doctor prescribed a medicine for your child which could prove fatal and then said, “It doesn’t make any difference,” when you objected? Or suppose the Pharmacist who filled the prescription said, “It doesn’t make any difference.” You would be outraged! What if your attorney said, “It doesn’t make any difference what you put in your will. A will is a will?” Such nonsense is never heard except in the realm of so-called “Christendom.”

There is a great deal of difference in the Law of Moses and the law of Christ (Galatians 5:4; 2 Corinthians 3:6; Romans 15:4; Hebrews 9:15-17).

If “it doesn’t make any difference,” it matters not what church you are a member of, the Lord’s church or Satan’s church (Colossians 1:13, 14; Ephesians 4:4).

If “it doesn’t make any difference,” any gospel can be preached and souls will be saved (1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Acts 17:22-31).

If “it doesn’t make any difference,” opinions are as good as the gospel (Galatians 1:6, 12).

If “it doesn’t make any difference,” one may pervert, corrupt and wrest the Scriptures (Galatians 1:6-9; 2 Peter 3:16).

If “it doesn’t make any difference,” one may worship as he pleases, where he pleases and whom he pleases, or not worship at all (John 4:20-24; Hebrews 10:25).

If “it doesn’t make any difference,” one may be a believer or an unbeliever, a Christian or an a
