My Lifeblood

written by: Thomas Woolworth

I can see Your blood washing away my sins as it flows down Your cheek. Slowly gliding along Your torn face toward the ground that would soon envelop Your body. Appears a tear from the corner of Your eye, O Lord, and it glistens with Your heart. It races to meet my Savior’s red, glowing life; it gently flows into my salvation; Into eternity; into life’s end; into lives beginnings.      Excruciating pain clutches at Your trembling body; it lunges from Your eyes, Tries to escape, but only grows and hardens; this, while my freedom is being born. O Lord, I do not deserve all that You give; Your love; and Your life. Pull the nails! Save the King! Only He is worthy of the Father’s love! Yet You hang, and You hang, the pull of the earth never ceasing to tear at Your wounds. Your life descends into the darkness of night, though Your death be light, for an unjust world of sinners. For me, Lord. Why for me?      How can people just stand here and watch as their selfish lives are saved? How can they not want to give their lives to spare Yours, Christ Jesus? O Father, is this really the answer? My God, He is Your Son!    Is there not a better way? Take all of the sinners’ lives, Father!    Take my life, but spare the only Holy One! He has done nothing but spread Your word and open hearts to You, Father! Do not let them crucify Him!      Ten thousand tears from each of my eyes will never wash Your pain away. But my tears will forever flow for You, my precious Lord Jesus. I shall give my soul for Yours, my heart for Your heart. I shall give everything to You, my Lord, I shall die for You; and live for You. I have nothing worthy to keep, except the love and peace You have given me. Lord Jesus, forever You are my lifeblood.
