THE MAN IN THE MOON--For The Children written by: Helen Dowd THE MAN IN THE MOON
“Is there a man in the moon?” she asked,
as she looked from the bed where she lay.
“I see his eyes and his nose and his mouth,
but where does the rest of him stay?
“I see him looking at me at night.
I can feel his face watching me sleep.
See there how he smiles with that silly grin?
But where does the rest of him keep?”
Her eyes dozed off into sleep just then,
and she sailed in her dreams through the sky.
“Sir Moon,” she said, “where’s the rest of you?”
“Come see,” was his whispered reply.
She tiptoed into his grinning face--
so surprised when she saw where he stayed.
His arms, his legs, and the rest of him
sat curled on a shelf he had made.
From that night on she would wink at Sir Moon,
and she’d smile from the bed where she lay.
“I’ve solved the puzzle of where you hide.
But I promise, I never will say.”
